Innsbruck Unveils Countdown Clock

The countdown clock for the Winter Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck was unveiled today, ticking off the remaining days, hours, minutes and seconds until the opening ceremony on January 13, 2012. The clock is located in the center of Innsbruck, on Maria Theresien Straße and Burggraben, in one of the most heavily frequented squares in the inner city, near the many tourist attractions of the Austrian alpine city.

Third Time Olympic Games Host

The unveiling took place exactly six months before the start of the 2012 Innsbruck Winter Youth Olympic Games, a source of pride for local organizers who also hosted the 1964 and 1976 OWG.

Games Getting Close

Innsbruck 2012 CEO Peter Bayer explained the importance of the OMEGA Countdown clock, “Four meters high and more than two meters wide, this clock in the heart of Innsbruck shows in an impressive way that the Winter Youth Olympic Games are getting closer. The clock also emphasizes the importance of timekeeping at the competitions and makes every moment palpable for athletes, officials and fans.”

The clock was unveiled by OMEGA Timing General Manager Christophe Berthaud, ÖOC Secretary general Dr. Peter Mennel, Innsbruck 2012 CEO Peter Bayer, Innsbruck Mayor Christine Oppitz-Plörer and Deputy Landeshauptmann (Governor) Hannes Gschwentner.
