After heavy snowfall in the morning, the women’s relay saw almost every possible weather phenomenon with rain and snow as well as sunshine and then towards the end of the relay the fog was back. Germany’s anchor Karolin Horchler commented, “During prone I saw virtually nothing. After every shot I had to lift my head to see if it was a hit. Standing was better, though.” The fog dropped the then leading Norwegians and the Russians back, both had penalties, like the Ukrainians.

The Czech team took this opportunity and Zvaricova moved up into second position. In standing, there was still fog but not as much so Horchler easily defended her lead. Norway’s Marte Olsbu left the stadium together with Zvaricova, 9 seconds ahead of Mariya Panfilova from Ukraine.

Zvaricova explained, „The competition today was much better than yesterday’s. I had strength and that was motivation for the second place. I thought the Norwegian would attack on the last uphill so I thought I have to go past her right away.” But the Norwegian was not able to attack today, something Panfilova noticed. “It was good for me to see the others ahead of me. I saw that the Norwegian was tired and I knew that I could move one spot up.”

Norway  finished fourth, 40.6 seconds back with one penalty and 12 spare rounds. Fifth place went to Russia with two penalties and 15 spare rounds, 1:11.2 back. Sixth place went to Slovakia with four penalties and 15 spare rounds, 3:07.9 back.
