No Retirement for Bjorndalen; Aiming for 2018 OWG

Norway's Ole Einar Björndalen, the most-medaled athlete in Olympic Winter Games history announced today at a press conference in Oslo that he will continue his biathlon career until the 2018 Pyeongchang OWG.

IBU Rookies of the Year: Tatiana Akimova, Anton Babikov

The final evening in Khanty Mansiysk was focused on the World Cup Total Score winners: the “man in black” Martin Fourcade and the “lady in red” Gabriela Soukalova. However, there were two other award winners that night; IBU Rookies of the Year Tatiana Akimova and Anton Babikov of Russia. This title goes to the top first-year World Cup athletes with the most World Cup points in at least three starts.

Reiter, Blashko Win IBU Junior Cup Total Score Titles

The IBU JOECH and Junior Cup 4 closed on Sunday afternoon at Pokljuka. Like the World Cup circuit, the winners of the IBU Junior Cup Total Score were honored; the first winners in this new circuit were Dominic Reiter of Germany and Darya Blashko of Belarus.

Martin Fourcade: Globes, Passion and Family Video

Germany's David Zobel, with two penalties won the JOECH men's pursuit title in 32:56.7. France’s Julia Simon, with two penalties followed up with the Gold medal in the women’s pursuit in the afternoon session, in 36:28.5.

Retirement for Russia’s Ivan Tcherezov

Two-time Olympic medalist and three-time World Champion Ivan Tcherezov today announced his retirement at a press conference in Khanty Mansiysk. Khanty was a symbolic place for him to make this announcement: the 35-year-old athlete had his first and last World Championships here in 2003 and 2011. Now he returned to say good-bye.
