IOC sanctions German biathlete Evi Sachenbacher-Stehle for failing anti-doping test at the Sochi Games The International Olympic Committee (IOC) today announced that biathlete Evi Sachenbacher-Stehle of Germany has been excluded from the XXII Olympic Winter Games in Sochi. Sachenbacher-Stehle, 33, tested positive on 17 February for methylhexaneamine (dimethylpentylamine).

Ukraine Golden in Women’s Relay

Ukraine won Olympic Gold in the women's relay this evening with a team of Vita Semerenko, Juliya Dzhyma, Valj Semerenko, and Olena Pidhrushna. Their five spare round shooting brought them across the finish line in 1:10:02.5, 26.4 seconds ahead of Silver medal-winning Russia, with four spare rounds. Norway claimed the Bronze medal, 37.6 seconds back, with five spare rounds.

Björndalen Elected to IOC Athletes’ Commission

Norway's Ole Einar Björndalen, just one day after becoming the most decorated Winter Olympian ever was announced along with Canadian hockey player Haley Wickenheiser as the newest members of the 22-person IOC Athletes' Commission.

Norway Dominates Mixed Relay Debut

Norway claimed the first-ever Olympic Mixed Relay Gold medal with a dominating performance from the whole team of Tora Berger, Tiril Eckhoff, Ole Einar Björndalen, and Emil Hegle Svendsen. They used just two spare rounds in their 1:09:17 win, 32.6 seconds ahead of the Silver medal team, Czech Republic, with seven spare rounds. The Bronze medal went to Italy, 58.2 seconds back.

Photo-Finish Mass Start Gold for Svendsen

Norway's Emil Hegle Svendsen outdueled France's Martin Fourcade down the finish stretch to claim the Men's Mass Start Gold medal this afternoon. Svendsen shot clean, covering the 15K course in 42:29.1. Fourcade, with one penalty was given the same time, but the finish photo showed the Norwegian ahead as they crossed the line. Clean-shooting Ondrej Moravec of Czech Republic won the Bronze medal, 13.8 seconds back.

Dasha Dominates; Triple Gold Medalist

Darya Domracheva of Belarus made Olympic Biathlon history today, winning the women's mass start and becoming the first woman to win three individual Gold medals in a single Olympic Winter Games. Her 35:25.6 time, with a single penalty, was 20.2 seconds ahead of Silver medalist Gabriela Soukalova of Czech Republic, also with one penalty. Tiril Eckhoff of Norway with an outstanding last loop claimed the Bronze medal, with one penalty, 28.3 seconds back.

Men’s Mass Start Postponed until Tuesday at 14:30

The Men’s 15K Mass Start competition at the Laura Biathlon Stadium has been postponed until Tuesday February 18. The new starting time for the competition is 14:30 Sochi Time (11:30 CET). An update concerning the scheduled Women’s Mass Start will be coming at 16:00 Local time. Watch for further details on our Facebook page, Biathlonworld or follow us on Twitter @biathlonworld.

Men’s Mass Start Moved to Monday at 10 AM Local Time

The string of perfect competition evenings here in Sochi was due to run out at some point, like at 18:00 tonight when the Men's 15K Mass Start was initially delayed for 1 hour, due to foggy conditions Just after 19:00, when the conditions remained the same the competition jury decided to postpone the competition until Monday at 10 am local time. The postponement was due to fog not only in the stadium but also due to heavy fog on the tracks which created dangerous conditions.
