Fourcade Hat Trick with Pursuit Title

Martin Fourcade of France faltered with two penalties in the final standing stage, but it did not stop him from a Gold medal hat trick with his pursuit win today after mixed relay and sprint Golds previously. His winning time of 32:56.5, with three penalties, put him 201.1 seconds ahead of Silver medalist Ole Einar Björndalen, with one penalty. The Bronze medal went to Björndalen's teammate, Emil Hegle Svendsen, with one penalty, 31.2 seconds back.

Pursuit Gold for Laura Dahlmeier

Clean-shooting Laura Dahlmeier of Germany dominated the women's 10K pursuit today to win Germany's first Gold medal in 30:49.2. Dorothea Wierer of Italy had two penalties but claimed the silver medal 48.3 seconds back, her first individual World Championships medal. Defending Champion Marie Dorin Habert of France, with three won the Bronze medal, 57.3 seconds back.

Tiril Eckhoff: Golden Girl in the Sprint

Clean-shooting Tiril Eckhoff thrilled the home crowd, wining the sprint Gold medal in 21:10.8. Defending sprint Champion Marie Dorin Habert of France also shot clean but finished 15 seconds back taking the Silver medal. Germany's Laura Dahlmeier, with one penalty, won the Bronze medal 19.8 seconds back.

Sprint Gold for Martin Fourcade

Clean-shooting Martin Fourcade of France won his seventh World Championships title today, taking the men's sprint Gold medal in 25:35.4. The Silver medal went to the ageless Ole Einar Björndalen of Norway, also shooting clean, 26.9 seconds back. Ukraine's Sergey Semenov, shooting clean surprised with the Bronze medal, 27.6 seconds back.

Sprint Preview: Anton Shipulin…Psychology & Sprint Gold

This is the big weekend at the IBU World Championships, with the sprint/pursuit double on Saturday and Sunday. Traditionally, these are two of the most anticipated and exciting competitions all season. Now that the mixed relay is over, the basic WCH jitters are calmed and the quest for individual titles is on. Marie Dorin Habert, who won both the sprint and pursuit last year, sprint titlist Johannes Thingnes Boe and pursuit winner Erik Lesser are all back to defend their titles. Their tasks will not be easy.

Oslo Postcard: City on the Fjord

Biathlon stadiums are usually in small villages or towns, but Oslo is unique as the only major city that hosts an annual BMW IBU World Cup and this year, the IBU World Championships. Martin and France Take Mixed Relay Gold

The French team of Anais Bescond, Marie Dorin Habert, Quentin Fillon Maillet and Martin Fourcade won the mixed relay Gold medal with eight spares in 1:14:01. Germany won the Silver medal, with seven spares, 4.3 seconds back, while the home team of Norway won the Bronze medal, with 10 spares, 14.4 seconds back.

Simon Fourcade on Medals and Potatoes Video

Simon Fourcade is one of the many athletes here in Oslo seeking a medal. However, he looks at this quest with a bit different perspective; Fourcade has finished in fourth place on five occasions at the IBU World Championships. The elder Fourcade brother, with a 20K Silver medal from Nove Mesto na Morave in 2013 talked about his preparation for this year’s World Championships including his “potato-peeling penalty” for missed shots in at the pre-WCH training camp in our video, “Simon Fourcade on Medals and Potatoes.”

Oslo Countdown, Two Days to Go: The Big Names

The eight World Cups so far this season were just a warm-up for the IBU World Championships that open on Thursday with the mixed relay at 15:30 CET in the legendary Holmenkollen National Ski Arena. Those "warm-ups" are usually fairly good predictors of those who will leave the WCH with medals around their necks.
