Pursuit Gold for USA’s Doherty and France’s Claude

Sean Doherty of the USA, with three penalties, won the Gold medal in the Youth Men's 10K Pursuit this afternoon in 28:51.8, his second Gold medal at the IBU YJWCH in Presque Isle, while Fabien Claude of France gave his country their first Gold medal when he won the afternoon Junior Men's 12.5K Pursuit in 33:02.8, with four penalties.

Gold for Italy’s Vittozzi and Kazakhstan’s Vishnevskaya

Both Gold medalists in the morning Women's Pursuit competitions were on the podium for the second day in a row. Italy's Lisa Vittozzi won her second Gold medal of these Championships claiming the Youth 7.5K Pursuit title, with seven penalties in 24:39.9 while Kazakhstan's Galina Vishnevskaya, after winning Silver in the Sprint claimed Gold in Junior Women's 10K Pursuit, with two penalties, in 32:36.3.

Russia’s Pavlova and Povarnitsyn Win Sprint Titles

Russia claimed both Junior Sprint World Championships today as Evgeniya Pavlova won the Junior Women's Sprint in 21:08.5, with clean shooting, and Alexander Povarnitsyn, with one penalty won the Junior Men's Gold medal in 24:45.8.

USA’s Doherty and Italy’s Vittozzi Take Youth Sprints

Sean Doherty of the USA and Lisa Vittozzi of Italy claimed the first two Gold medals at the 2014 IBU Youth/ Junior World Championships today, by winning the Youth Sprints. Doherty, with four penalties won the afternoon men's 7.5K title in 19:35, while Vittozzi won the morning 6K, with one penalty in 18:49.9. Both were Silver medalists in the 2013 Championships.

Gold for Russian Men in Relay

Russia won its first Olympic Biathlon medal of these 2014 Olympic Winter Games, claiming the men's 4 X 7.5K relay to the delight of a packed stadium this evening. The team of Alexey Volkov, Evegeny Ustyugov, Dmitry Malyshko, and Anton Shipulin finished in 1:12:15.9, with eight spare rounds, 3.5 seconds ahead of silver medalists Germany, with two spare rounds. Austria, with seven spares won the Bronze medal, 29.8 seconds back.

IOC sanctions German biathlete Evi Sachenbacher-Stehle for failing anti-doping test at the Sochi Games The International Olympic Committee (IOC) today announced that biathlete Evi Sachenbacher-Stehle of Germany has been excluded from the XXII Olympic Winter Games in Sochi. Sachenbacher-Stehle, 33, tested positive on 17 February for methylhexaneamine (dimethylpentylamine).
