On 28 January 2014 and in compliance with the IBU Anti-Doping Rules as well as the World Anti-Doping Code, the IBU announced the provisional suspension of three biathlon athletes, two from Russia and one from Lithuania. This decision was based on Adverse Analytical Finding (AAF) Reports indicating the presence of a non-specified substance in these athletes' A samples.

Sprint Gold to Ole Einar Björndalen

Norway's Ole Einar Björndalen won his first individual Gold medal in 12 years tonight by claiming the men's 10K sprint, with one penalty in 24:33.5. The 40-year-old biathlon legend took an early lead and held off Austria's Dominik Landertinger, who was 10 years old when Björndalen won his first Gold at Nozawa Onsen in 1998. Landertinger shot clean, but was 1.3 seconds behind Björndalen. The Bronze medal went to Czech Republic's Jaroslav Soukup, who also shot clean, but finished 5.7 seconds back.

Spectacular Opening in Sochi

Os and Podchufarova Win IBU Cup Sprints

Clean-shooting Alexander Os of Norway won the men's sprint on a rainy morning in Osrblie, at IBU Cup 7 in 23:14.9. Second went to Russia's Timofey Lapshin, with one penalty, 5.5 seconds back, while another Norwegian Haavard Bogetveit also shooting clean was third, 20.2 seconds back.

Duel in the Dark: Men’s Sprint Rivalry

One of the big questions at these Sochi Olympic Winter Games will be decided on Saturday evening: who will come out on top in this nighttime duel between France's Martin Fourcade and Norway's Emil Hegle Svendsen. Return to Laura; 48 Hours until First Competition

It has been almost a year since the World Cup here in Sochi, but today the Laura Biathlon Stadium is a different place than just 11 months ago. Last year, it was hosting a World Cup. Now it will be the site of the Olympic Biathlon competitions starting on Saturday evening with the men's sprint at 18:30 local time.

Gold for Belarusian Women

The Belarusian biathletes claimed another title at the OECH in the windy Nove Mesto na Morave, winning the 4x6K women's relay. The team consisting of Iryna Kryuko, Ala Talkach, Aksana Shymnovich and Nastassia Kalina won the race in 1:15:39, using 12 spare rounds and visiting the penalty loop twice.

Ukrainian Juniors Claim the OECH Mixed Relay Title

The Ukrainian team consisting of Yuliya Bryhynets, Yuliya Zhuravok, Andriy Dotsenko and Artem Tyshchenko won Gold in the junior mixed relay today in a time of1:14:32, using 12 spare rounds. They were the only team that did not visit the penalty loop.

Brorsson and Tsvetkov Win OECH Pursuit Titles

Sweden's Mona Brorsson won the women's pursuit in 32:38.7, with two penalties, while Russia's Maxim Tsvetkov won the men's pursuit in 31:56.4, with one penalty to claim the IBU OECH title in their respective competitions today.
