Pokljuka Wrap-up Video: Sunshine, Shooting & Yellow Bib

Pokljuka lived up to Slovenia's image as the sunny side of the Alps, with brilliant windless days perfect for clean shooting and spectacular action on the tracks. These final competitions of the first trimester closed with Jean Guillaume Beatrix's first career World Cup win over Emil Hegle Svendsen, while Kaisa Mäkäräinen topped the women's field. As the World Cup circus leaves Pokljuka; Martin Fourcade and Gabriela Soukalova are wearing the Yellow Bibs for the holiday season. Our "Pokljuka Wrap-up: Sunshine, Shooting and Yellow Bibs," is full of sunny highlights as we head into 2016.

Second Win of New Season for Kaisa

Finland’s Kaisa Mäkäräinen won today’s women’s mass start in 34:40.2 with just a single penalty early in the competition. Clean-shooting Gabriela Soukalova of Czech Republic finished second, 11.8 seconds back while regaining the Yellow Bib she lost in yesterday’s pursuit. Russia’s Olga Podchufarova, also shooting clean had her first World Cup podium in third place, 27.7 seconds back.

Jean Guillaume Beatrix Tops Svendsen for Mass Start Win

France’s Jean Guillaume Beatrix shot clean to claim his first-ever World Cup win in today’s mass start, covering the 15K in 35:33.7. Norway’s Emil Hegle Svendsen finished second, a mere 0.3 second back with one penalty. His teammate Ole Einar Björndalen finished third with two penalties, and was third, 2.5 seconds back.

Akimova and Lapshin Win IBU Cup Sprints

Timofey Lapshin of Russia scored a confident win with clean shooting to win men's 10K sprint in 23:59.8 today in Obertilliach. Russia's Tatiana Akimova matched Lapshin on the shooting range and finished first in 20:20.9 in the afternoon women's sprint. These wins gave the Russian team a perfect 4-for-4 this week, taking the top spot in every competition.

Dahlmeier Wins Pursuit Battle with Dorin Habert

Clean-shooting Laura Dahlmeier of Germany won today’s women’s pursuit in 30:08.8. Marie Dorin Habert of France, also shot clean but after tight battle with Dahlmeier finished 18 seconds back. Finland’s Kaisa Mäkäräinen was third, with one penalty, 55.2 seconds back.

Pokljuka Double for Simon Schempp

Clean-shooting Simon Schempp of Germany led from the start to the finish in capturing the men's pursuit today in 30:46.5, his second win of the week. Martin Fourcade of France finished second 16.6 seconds back, with one penalty. Russia's Anton Shipulin was third 23.4 seconds back with two penalties.

First Win of New Season for Marie Dorin Habert

Clean-shooting Marie Dorin Habert of France scored her first win of the new season in today’s women’s sprint. Her 20:17.8 victory put her 1.1 seconds ahead of Germany’s Laura Dahlmeier who also shot clean. Teammate Franziska Hildebrand matched Dahlmeier with 10 perfect shots but finished third, 13 seconds back.

IBU Development: Material Distribution

Early each season, the IBU holds a Material Distribution Day in Hochfilzen where teams big and small receive varying amounts of gear. This day is a part of the IBU Development program in cooperation with IBU Partner/Suppliers. The Partner/Suppliers provide more than one million Euros in equipment from skis and poles to race suits, ammunition and ski wax. This distribution gives top-notch material to athletes who would otherwise have to buy this equipment to compete at the World Cup, IBU Cup or Junior levels. Eliseev and Sleptsova Win at Obertilliach

Matvey Eliseev of Russia won the men's 20K at IBU Cup 3 this morning with a single penalty in 50:04.3. His teammate Svetlana Sleptsova matched him by taking the women's 15K in the afternoon, also with a single penalty in 47:08.6. These two victories which included a Russian sweep in the 20K furthered reinforced Russia's domination of the IBU Cup competitions this season.

IBU Junior Cup...Up and Running Successfully

Last weekend saw a new chapter in the development of biathlon; the premiere of the IBU Junior Cup in Obertilliach. The goal of this new circuit is to provide more international competition opportunities the ever-developing youth that are the future of biathlon. The response to this new circuit has been overwhelming with 32 nations and 213 starters last week and similar amount competing in IBU Junior Cup 2 this week in Martell, Italy.
