Russia Men’s Coach Ricco Gross: Responsible for Success

Biathlon coaches are always under the microscope; nowhere are coaches more watched by the fans and media than in Russia, where biathlon is a source of pride and success is expected. Last week at the Russian Summer Biathlon Championships in Tchaikovsky, the Russian Men's Head Coach Ricco Gross was the man under the microscope as stood behind the scope in his new position for the first time at an official competition. Gross, the multiple Olympic and World Champion from Germany took over the job in August after coaching the German IBU Cup team last season and before that working with German Women's World Cup team. Now, he is learning how to work with a totally new group of athletes, a new system, and a new language, where he admits, he knows, "a few key words."

Sergey Semenov: “Starting from Scratch”

After all of the huge volume and hard work that athletes have put in during the summer, very soon most of the teams will go to their first on-snow training camps. The leader of the Ukrainian National team, who also won the crystal globe for the individual competition, Sergey Semenov is looking forward for the first snow camp as well. He quickly pointed out that the award he received last season was very important and pleasant for him, but now he tries to forget about it. Semenov will start the new season from scratch with new goals.

Belarusian Team Back Home at Raubichi

After extended camps at Pokljuka and in France, the Belarusian men and women are back home at Raubichi as the new season approaches. They have just completed a two–week camp, will take a short break and return on September 23 for another training block and some national summer biathlon competitions.

Five Questions for Jakov Fak

When we last saw Jakov Fak, he was crossing the finish line as the winner of the final competition of the 2014-15 season, the men's mass start in Khanty Mansiysk. As a new season approaches, Fak is looking forward to another season like or better than last year. That means topping 3rd in the World Cup Total Score and his Mass Start World Championship. Without being specific about his goals, he commented, "When I look at last season and my third place in the Total Score; the big difference is victories."

Darya Domracheva to Skip 2015-16 Biathlon Season

World Cup Total Score titlist and three-time Olympic Gold medalist Darya Domracheva announced today that she will skip the upcoming biathlon season. Early in July, the Belarusian star revealed that she was suffering from mononucleosis. Now she will take more time to fully recover, prepare for the 2016-17 season, while being able "to rejoice in the small things."

Anton Shipulin: A New Plan for Success

Last season was one of the most successful for the Olympic Champion Anton Shipulin: he finished second in the World Cup Total Score, with only Martin Fourcade ahead of him. This success inspired the Russian biathlete, pushing him to look for new methods and types of work that would allow him to do more to fulfill his dreams. Now Shipulin trains apart from the main team, implementing and controlling his own path to success.
