Magdalena Neuner Video Interview

Magdalena Neuner at age 25 is the iconic female biathlete of her generation; talented, attractive and famous. As she says in this new Biathlonworld.com interview, “I have it all; Olympic Gold medals, World Championships…” So far this week, she has a complete set of medals from these 2012 IBU World Championships. Yesterday, she said, “I am very proud of all of the medals I have won this week, but there are still more races and chances for more.”

Gold Number Two for Martin Fourcade

Martin Fourcade of France won his second Gold medal of these Championships today by taking the men’s 12.5K pursuit in 33:39.4, with four penalties. Sweden’s Carl Johan Bergman won the Silver medal, 5.2 seconds back with two penalties. Bronze went to Russia’s Anton Shipulin, with one penalty, 22.1 seconds back.

Sprint Title to Martin Fourcade

France’s Martin Fourcade claimed his first Sprint World Championship today in 24:18.6 with two penalties. The Silver medal went to Emil Hegle Svendsen of Norway, also with two penalties, 15.1 seconds back. Third went to clean-shooting Carl Johan Bergman of Sweden, 17.7 seconds back.

“Ruhpolding Shooting Range Analysis” Video

Thursday’s mixed relay was a perfect example of how the outcome of a competition is affected by one shooting stage. Germany was in the lead when Arnd Peiffer came in for his standing stage. The normally on-target Peiffer struggled, eventually earning an unwanted visit to the penalty loop.

It All Begins with …the Mixed Relay

The 2012 IBU World Championships officially kick off this evening with the opening Ceremonies in Champions Park. However, for the teams, these Championships begin tomorrow at 15:30 CET with the mixed relay. The first Gold, Silver and Bronze medals will be draped around the necks of the top three teams later that evening.
