Norway Wins Obertilliach Mixed Relay

The Norwegian team of Thekla Brun-Lie, Hilde Fenne, Vegard Gjermundshaug, Lars Helge Birkeland won the mixed relay of the last competition day on IBU Cup in Obertilliach. The Norway athletes had 5 spare rounds plus two penalty loops and finished in 1:10:39.83. Germany finished second, 29.7 seconds back while France was 52.6 seconds back in third. Ukraine was fourth, Russia finished fifth and Sweden sixth.

Jouty and Varvynets Win Obertilliach Sprints

Baptiste Jouty of France won his second men's 10K sprint in Obertilliach in 26:02.1, while Iryna Varvynets of Ukraine with early start number 2 won the women's 7.5K in 21:39.2. Both shot clean today. Germany's Florian Graf with bib number 14 started just in front of Jouty in the men's competition. He missed once and crossed the finish line as the leader, but a few seconds later French athlete with start number 15 pushed him to the second place winning by just .3 seconds! Third went to Scott Gow of Canada, shooting clean, just 1.6 seconds back.

IBU Cup Sprints to Baptiste Jouty & Federika Sanfilippo

Federika Sanfilippo of Italy and Baptiste Jouty of France won the women's and men's IBU Cup sprints today in Obertilliach. Both stood atop the podium for the first time in their careers. Sanfilippo shooting clean covered the 7.5K course in 20;40.4m while Jouty with two penalties covered the 10K course in 25:53. The conditions on the second day of competition at IBU Cup 3 were almost perfect; sunny weather, almost no wind and a hard track. Clean shooting wasn't enough to win today; all three men on the podium had penalties. Baptiste Jouty won the men's 10K with two penalties in 25:53.8. Germany's Benedikt Doll, with one penalty had later start, but couldn't surpass Jouty's result, ending up 6.1 seconds back. Third place went to the France's Antonin Guigonnat with two penalties, 15.4 seconds back.

Kilchytskyy and Bachmann Win at IBU Cup 3

The third IBU Cup in Obertilliach opened with the first individual competitions in the season. Ukrainian Vitaliy Kilchytskyy won the men's 20K with one penalty in 50:12.5, while German veteran Tina Bachmann scored her first win in this season in the women's 15K in 46:56.2 Second place in the men's competition went to Sven Grossegger of Austria. He showed good speed on the tracks but missed twice, finishing 38.5 seconds back. Russia's Petr Pashchenko with the late start number 97 had one penalty and crossed the finish line in third place, 49.1 seconds back. Six nations at the flower ceremony

IBU Cup 3: Snow Challenge Video

Lack of snow from Scandinavia to Italy has been a challenge for both organizers and athletes this winter so far. Due to a lack of snow the competitions scheduled for IBU Cup 2 In Martell, Italy had to be reassigned to Obertilliach this week and Duszniki Zdrój, Poland next month. At the same time, some teams have revised their training schedules because of poor snow conditions in the places where they normally train. “IBU Cup 3: Snow Challenge” takes a look at the good conditions in Obertilliach, as athletes and organizers comment about their personal snow challenges.

Reallocation of IBU Cup 2

Due to a lack of snow, Martell Italy informed the IBU that it will be unable to host IBU Cup 2 from December 12-14, 2014. Accordingly, the competitions scheduled for there have been reallocated to IBU Cup 3 in Obertilliach, Austria and IBU Cup 4 in Duszniki Zdrój, Poland.

Victory in 15K for Domracheva

Darya Domracheva of Belarus took an early lead in the women's 15K individual this evening in Östersund and never relinquished it. She claimed her 20th World Cup victory in 46:43.6 with two penalties. She finished 27.9 seconds ahead of Finland's Kaisa Mäkäräinen, also with two penalties. Ukraine's Clean-shooting Valj Semerenko was third, 38.1 seconds back. Domracheva's teammate Nadezhda Skardino, with one penalty finished fourth, 2:04.3 back. Fifth went to Veronika Vitkova of Czech Republic, with three penalties, 2:09.1 back. Germany's Franziska Hildebrand, with two penalties, finished sixth, 2:25.7 back.

Fourcade for France Wins Mixed Relay

France's Martin Fourcade pulled away in the final meters of the season-opening mixed relay this afternoon in Östersund to give his team a .2 second victory over Norway. France had 11 spare rounds while the Norwegians had one penalty and 11 spares. Germany finished third with nine spare rounds. Fourth went to Ukraine with 14 spares, 31.6 seconds back while Italy finished fifth with two penalties and nine spares, 45.2 seconds back. Slovenia finished sixth, with one penalty and nine spares, 45.5 seconds back.
