Clean Shooting Gives Flatland Sprint Victory

Norway’s Ann Kristin Flatland claimed the second victory of her career by shooting clean in the 7.5K sprint this evening. She covered the fast Östersund tracks in 20:41.2, putting her 15.9 seconds ahead of Russia’s Olga Zaitseva, who also shot clean. Flatland’s teammate Tora Berger, with one penalty finished third, 22 seconds back.

Benedikt Doll Wins Men’s 20K Individual in Beitostølen

On a windless afternoon with a bit of light snowfall, 124 men started the 20K individual won by Germany's Benedikt Doll. He turned in a strong performance, finishing in 56:14.1 with a single penalty in the first prone stage. Canadian Brendan Green also missed just one shot and to finish second 1:27.7 behind Doll. Third place went to Russia's Maxim Tchoudov with two penalties, putting him another five seconds behind Green.

Podchufarova Wins Beitostølen 15K

Russia’s Olga Podchufarova, with one penalty topped the field of 86 women in today’s 15K individual at IBU Cup 2, with a time of 51:07.7. Teammate Valentina Nazarova came in just 5.3 seconds later for second place, with two penalties. Ukrainian Olga Abramova also had two penalties in third place, 48.1 seconds back.

Makoveev Claims Second Victory for Russia

Russia’s Andrej Makoveev won the second sprint competition at the Idre IBU Cup, covering the 10K in 26:39.8 with 2 penalties. Germany’s Daniel Böhm with three penalties finished second, but was only 0.5 seconds behind Makoveev. Daniel Mesotitsch of Austria was third, also three penalties, 0.8 seconds back.

Nowakowska-Ziemniak Wins First Women’s Sprint in Idre

Clean-shooting Weronika Nowakowska-Ziemniak of Poland claimed the first women’s 7.5K sprint of the new IBU Cup season today in Idre in 21:05. Norway’s Fanny Welle-Strand Horn, with one penalties finished second, 39.1 seconds back, while Romania’s Eva Tofalvi also shooting clean was third, but 41.3 seconds back.

Lapshin Takes Opening Sprint in Idre

Russia’s Timofey Lapshin captured the first IBU Cup sprint of the new season, covering the 10K in 24:01.9 while shooting clean. Second went to Canada’s Nathan Smith, also shooting clean, 3.9 seconds back. Erlend Bjoentegaard of Norway, with one penalty was third, 14.3 seconds back.

Idre IBU Cup Opens New Season; Inside the Stadium Video

IBU Cup 1 in the small village of Idre, Sweden kicks off the 2013-14 biathlon season this weekend. The biathlon stadium is about 9 km from the village of 1000 inhabitants, just 45 km from the Norwegian border in west central Sweden. The village, due to its charming landscape is a popular vacation resort for a lot of tourists both in summer and in winter. Idre is hosting the IBU Cup for the fourth time.

Canmore Recovers; Damages Repaired

It has been slightly more than a month that the Canadian town Canmore, the host city of biathlon World Cups, the first IBU Cups outside of Europe and the 1988 Olympic Biathlon competitions was cut off due to heavy rain, resulting in the destruction of roads. Today, none of this is visible at the Nordic Center, the biathlon and cross country stadium above the town.

IBU Cup 2 relocated to Beitostoelen

The Norwegian Biathlon Federation announced in coordination with IBU that the IBU Cup 2 in the 2013-14 season will be relocated from Geilo to Beitostoelen. The IBU Cup is scheduled for the weekend of November 26-30, 2013. Beitostoelen is an experienced event host and this relocation now leads to a repeat of last season’s season opening with the IBU Cup athletes going from Idre in Sweden to the cross country and biathlon stadium of Beitostoelen in Norway.
